In the fast-paced world of digital marketing, the key to maintaining a strong online presence is consistently churning out engaging, high-quality content. But we all know that coming up with fresh, exciting content ideas every month can be… let’s just say, tough. I’m here to help with that! Keep reading for 10 of my favourite creative content ideas you can add to your monthly content calendar, that will help you supercharge content creation for your small business.
1. Memes or Funny Videos
Inject humor into your content calendar by sharing memes and funny videos that your target audience could relate to. The key here is getting inside their minds and thinking about what they struggle with, what their goals are, etc. so that the content is actually funny for them as well. The biggest mistake you can make here is creating content that’s only funny for you, or others in your industry. This will drive a wedge between you and your audience, fast.
2. Customer Success Stories
Sharing real-life success stories from your customers can create trust and social proof for your brand. Feature their experiences and highlight how your product or service made a positive impact on their lives or businesses. Make sure you tell the story of your client’s success and clearly illustrate the fundamental role you played in their success. Please for the love of god, don’t get on Canva and search “client testimonial,” pick a random graphic, throw your testimonial in there and expect success. THIS IS NOT THE SAME. The key is sharing the story and illustrating how the client got from point A to point B-etter, with your help!
3. Seasonal and Holiday-Themed Content
Align your content with relevant holidays and seasons. Create content around holiday gift guides, seasonal trends, or industry-specific insights tied to the time of year. This will keep your content calendar fresh and exciting. Get creative here and see how your brand can participate in fun days like “National Small Business Day” or “World Meditation Day.” Think of general seasonality themes as well like “Back to School,” “Wedding Season,” “Spooky Season” and come up with engaging and exciting ways that your brand can participate. Make sure to keep your audience in mind when selecting which calendar dates to create content around.
4. Collaborative Content
Collaboration with complementary niches isn’t just a strategy for influencers; it’s also an invaluable tool for business owners managing their own social media. When you partner with accounts that share a similar target audience but aren’t direct competitors, you can unlock fresh opportunities for follower growth. Imagine you’re running the social media for a yoga studio. Partnering with professionals in the health and wellness space, such as meditation experts, breath-work coaches, mindfulness trainers, or spirituality gurus, could be immensely advantageous for tapping into new audiences.
5. Share What You Believe In (or don’t believe in)
Value-based content is on the ups and the more polarizing it is, the better likelihood of it performing well and here’s why. Sharing a polarizing opinion or viewpoint encourages conversation, and conversation signals to the algorithm that your audience likes your piece of content – therefore, the algorithm then pushes this piece of content to a larger audience. NOW. Don’t go an start a fight on Instagram (that’s not what I’m saying)… But share what you believe in. It’ll help you find your tribe, and it will push away those who don’t vibe with what you’re saying. This is a great way to strengthen your relationship to your followers.
6. Behind the Scenes Content
Peek behind the curtain of your business by sharing behind-the-scenes content. This could include office tours, employee spotlights, or a day in the life of your CEO. Humanizing your brand fosters a stronger connection with your audience and when people feel a closer connection to a brand they will buy from them, over their competitors 76% of the time (according to Sprout Social).
7. Problem-Awareness Content
This type of content addresses the pain points and challenges your target audience faces within your niche. By acknowledging these issues, you position your business as a trusted resource for solutions. Create carousels, videos, or infographics that dive into specific problems your audience encounters, providing in-depth insights and tips on how to tackle them. Empathize with your readers or viewers, showing that you understand their struggles and are here to help.
Problem-awareness content not only showcases your expertise but also fosters a deeper connection with your audience. It’s an excellent opportunity to introduce your products or services as the solution without coming across as overly promotional. By genuinely assisting your audience with their concerns, you’ll build credibility and trust, which can lead to conversions and long-term customer loyalty.
8. Embodiment Content
Walk in your audience’s shoes by sharing personal experiences and stories that demonstrate your empathy and understanding of their challenges. This relatable content can create a stronger bond with your audience, showcasing that you’ve been where they are and can provide solutions from firsthand knowledge. It also shows that you walk the walk, you don’t just talk the talk.
For example – For example, with one of my clients (a lawyer), we created a video explaining why she had an estate plan in place for her family. The reason behind this was that we were consistently emphasizing to her audience the importance of having an estate plan. By showcasing that she had one in place, we built a layer of trust and demonstrated that she practices what she preaches.
